Mike Newell expects to sign a long-term contract with Luton after rejecting the advances of Coca-Cola Championship rivals Leicester.

Hatters boss Newell had two interviews with the Foxes as they sought a replacement for the sacked Craig Levein, but insists he did not contemplate moving. Newell, whose current contract runs out at the end of next season, has been in talks about a new deal for two months, and chairman Bill Tomlins stressed that discussions had begun long before news of Leicester´s interest arose.

"Never at any stage did I consider going to Leicester," Newell told PA Sport. "I am an ex-Leicester player, and I spoke to them out of courtesy. It never reached a stage where I was offered a job."
