Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is the latest big name to be selected in the ‘Galaxy XI’.
The England star joins the likes of Lionel Messi, Mario Gotze, Oscar, Iker Casillas and Victor Moses in the Samsung team, who are set to take on a side of aliens in a rather elaborate marketing campaign from the mobile phone company.
Rooney was happy to play along on social media, telling his 15 million fans on Facebook that he’s ready to do his bit for the human race when the invasion happens.
He wrote: “Aliens want to mess with us? I'm ready for them. Proud to be a part of #GALAXY11 and our fight to save Earth!”
Manchester United supporters will hope Rooney can take time out from saving the world to help the club in their battle for the Premier League title.
David Moyes’ side have found the going tough at the start of the season, with the Red Devils currently ninth in the table following back-to-back defeats at Old Trafford.
However, striker Rooney has been in fine individual form, scooping the Manchester United player of the month award in November.
And, after serving a one-game ban at the weekend, he’ll look to get back in the goals against Aston Villa and West Ham in the coming weeks.
