Barcelona are poised to finally make good on the speculation surrounding them making an offer for Chelsea star David Luiz in January.

According to French newspaper Le 10 Sport, the Catalan giants are preparing to move for the Brazilian in the winter transfer window as Gerardo Martino looks to strengthen his defence.

Sources in Spain are reporting that Luiz is open to a switch to the Nou Camp due to the limited game-time he's had this season- he's only made five appearances- despite rumours that Jose Mourinho isn't interested in a sale.

Rumours concerning a potential €35million bid have been rife, and that fee may just be enough to sway Chelsea's hand in parting ways with their eccentric defender.

Luiz will no doubt be wanting to rack up the minutes before the World Cup next year, and this may be a factor concerning any potential transfer.

However it will more than likely all hinge on whether or not Mourinho can secure the transfer targets he wants in January, as he's unlikely to deplete his squad of first-team stars otherwise.
