AS Monaco manager Claudio Ranieri has confirmed his interest in signing Manchester United and Arsenal target Angel Di Maria, reports Sky Sports.

The Real Madrid midfielder has been the subject of intense speculation in recent months, with suggestions that he could leave the Santiago Bernabeu when the transfer window reopens in January.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been credited with an interest in bringing Di Maria to the Emirates Stadium, even after completing the club-record capture of Mesut Ozil during the summer.

Manchester United are also monitoring the Argentina international's situation in Spain, as David Moyes weighs up a rival bid for the €35million-rated star, as he looks to strengthen his creative midfield options at Old Trafford in the New Year.

However, the Red Devils and Arsenal will face competition for Di Maria's signature from big-spending Ligue 1 giants Monaco, after Ranieri revealed that he is keen to add the player to his first-team ranks at Stade Louis II, even if he isn't confident of getting him in January.

"Indeed, he is a player I am interested in," the Italian coach told reporters after Monaco's 1-0 win over Ajaccio on Sunday.

"But I don't think he will join us. It is just rumours."
