England have announced their respective squads for the limited overs matches that will commence after the conclusion of the Ashes series, with five 50-over ODI games followed by three T20 encounters.

The first ODI takes place on January 12 at the MCG, the same venue as the Boxing Day Test, before Brisbane, Sydney, Perth and Adelaide play host to the next four meetings.

This series will be succeeded with a triple helping of T20 cricket, with the opener in Hobart on January 31, while England will end their tour down under at the SCG four days later.

Captain Alastair Cook returns to the 50-over squad, as do Stuart Broad, Ian Bell and Tim Bresnan, all of whom missed the reverse series in September due to the exertions in the summer.

Gary Ballance, who is in the Ashes touring party, is also included for the ODIs, as is spinner Danny Briggs. The Hampshire bowler is also named in the T20 squad after spending time on the England Performance Programme in Australia with the likes of Jos Buttler and Chris Jordan.

"We have an important period of limited overs cricket coming up with an ICC World T20 in Bangladesh in March and we are just over a year away from the ICC Cricket World Cup in New Zealand and Australia," Geoff Miller, the chairman of selectors, said in a press release.

"These two series against Australia allow valuable opportunities for players to push for places in both squads and given the rivalry between the sides both series will no doubt be keenly contested.”
