Tottenham Hotspur are rumoured to be preparing a move for Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko in the January transfer window, according to sources in Italy.
Spurs will almost certainly be a striker down, as current frontman Jermain Defoe has reportedly agreed to a £90,000-a-week transfer to Major League Soccer outfit Toronto FC, with a transfer fee believed to be around £6million for the 31 year old.
It is thought that Dzeko will be a strongly favoured target for Andre Villas Boas, and rumours suggest the Bosnia international could be keen on a move.
The 27-year-old Manchester City player has been mostly relegated to the substitutes bench since he was give his last Premier League start in game against Aston Villa in September, in favour of the frequently-firing pairing of Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo.
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has previously stated that the out-of-favour striker will not be leaving in January, but he may be swayed if a lucrative offer comes in, particularly seen as though summer signing Stevan Jovetic remains sitting in reserve.
“Maybe at the moment he (Dzeko) is not playing as much as he would like, but he remains an important part of the squad," Pellegrini said.
However the Chilean has not ruled out a move in the summer and at the right price teams like Tottenham would see a player like Dzeko as a fantastic acquisition.
It remains to be seen now whether or not Villas-Boas will risk being rejected in the winter transfer window, or wait until the summer to make his move.
