Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong used Twitter this morning to reveal that Gunners stars face a £1,000 fine for being late to training, after battling through traffic to escape the hefty punishment by a matter of minutes.

Frimpong has not travelled with the Gunners squad to Naples for a crucial Champions League tie, but was still due to report for a training session at the club's London Colney base by 10.30am.

The Ghana international was sat in traffic and decided to use social media to pass the time, before eventually revealing that he managed to avoid shelling out a grand for tardiness by the slimmest of margins.

A first tweet of "Traffic need go hit the training ground for 10.30 I hope I make it," came complete with an image of a hefty traffic jam.

Soon after "Mr.Dench" dropped the fine bombshell in a relieved reply to a message asking if he made training on time, tweeting: "loool yhh just avoided that thousand pounds lol."

Frimpong's latest social media faux-pas means Arsenal's fine system will hit the headlines once again, after Per Mertesacker was revealed as the squad's debt collector earlier this year.

The 21-year-old is yet to feature for Arsenal this season, remaining a peripheral figure at the Emirates in the final year of his current contract.

A loan move looks likely for the tough-tackling enforcer, once he has regained full fitness after suffering a serious knee injury in his final game for Fulham at the back end of last season.
