Chelsea and Manchester United face competition from Manchester City in the race to sign French defender Kurt Zouma, according to reports.
Le 10 Sport claims the Citizens have set their sights on the 19-year-old centre back, with the future of captain Vincent Kompany uncertain.
The Belgian has endured a torrid time with injuries at the Etihad Stadium recently, playing just 26 Premier League games last season and four so far this term for the Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
Kompany remains vital to Manchester City when fit, but Zouma – rated at €13million – would provide the club with a long-term option.
The Citizens aren’t the only English club interested however, with both the Blues and Red Devils also keen on the teenager’s signature.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is credited with an interest in the player, and could look to bolster his defensive ranks with the addition of Zouma.
‘The Special One’ has taken over a young squad at Stamford Bridge, and added to it further with the signings of Marco van Ginkel and Andre Schurrle in the summer.
At 19, the French youth international would be one of the youngest in west London if Chelsea were able to land him in the New Year, and he’d compete with John Terry, Gary Cahill and David Luiz for a place in the starting line-up.
Manchester United, meanwhile, were linked with a move for Zouma back in October.
The Red Devils have endured a tough start to the season after a summer of transfer disappointment for manager David Moyes, who struggled to land a major signing after replacing Sir Alex Ferguson at the helm.
Whilst Zouma isn’t a big name, he would be a signing for the future at Old Trafford, and could go some way to appeasing the Manchester United fans after a season of struggles to-date.
