Manchester United may need to seriously look in the transfer window for a top midfielder to bring glory back to Old Trafford once again.

But who is out there to save United? Let's see.

1. Marco Reus

With Reus being a key player at current club Borussia Dortmund, this would definitely not be an easy signing.

There may well be hope for United however with a rumoured €35 million release clause meaning United could secure the deal in January is to be completed but it would also depend on the Red Devils fighting off competition in Europe as well as a new contract supplied by Dortmund.

However, securing Reus would definitely strengthen United's title hopes as he is quick paced and a goal scoring threat to opponents.

This could be a key signing for United if they are able to lure him to the camp bringing in more goals and key passes which could end up with more points and at least a Champions League spot.

2. Juan Mata

Another signing which would be hard to capture is that of Chelsea number 10, Juan Mata. Mata has been left out over previous week but nothing has shown that Mourinho wants rid of the player, just for him to work harder in defence.

One thing that Mata would gain at United is game time. Mata would surely be able to make a first team spot every week with many assists and a few goals to his name.

Mata would certainly be able to provide Rooney and Van Persie with numerous goals for the rest of the season but all depends on Chelsea's willingness to sell the Spain international.

3. Julian Draxler

The 20-year-old German international's stock has certainly been on the up following a great season for the youngster. Draxler has a number of clubs willing to get out the cheque book ready to sign him in the January window as the midfielder looks like he has been playing world class football for years.

Draxler is very confident on the ball and is ready to go out and look for it if it does not come his way. And with Manchester United's current crop of centre midfielders, who only seem to pass backwards.

4. İlkay Gündoğan

Another one of Germany's stars in recent times is that of Borussia Dortmund midfielder İlkay Gündoğan. Gündoğan last season managed to create 18 chances and 3 goals to his name.

Manchester United would have to battle with the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Arsenal to his signature as all of these teams are linked with the German superstar however, Gündogan would certainly improve the Red Devils' midfield and at 23 he is mature as a player and a person and also old enough to assert himself in the starting eleven whilst still having the creativity and energy of a youngster.

5. Andrés Iniesta

Yes, I know this is very unlikely indeed but reports are coming out the Catalan's camp that there is a stall over contract talks and United could be poised to cash-in on the elite playmaker. The Spanish captain has shown why he is one of the top midfielders in the world over the years at Barcelona winning practically everything thee is to offer as well as on the international stage.

He is still not past his best as he showed for Spain when challenging Uruguay and making it look like he was against a Sunday League side with his skills and passing.

Iniesta would be a major improvement in the camp in the red side of Manchester and many chances for Rooney and Van Persie to score are inevitable.

Although it's most likely Iniesta will agree a new deal with Barcelona, Iniesta could still be on the cards for United when the transfer window comes around.
