Manchester United and Liverpool target Ryan Gauld continues to enjoy a fruitful season both personally and with his club, and Willie Miller believes the 'unstoppable' teenager is capable of transforming Dundee United into SPL contenders.
The Terrors are currently third in the league and owe much of their success to the form of Gauld, who has scored five goals and contributed five assists in 17 appearances during his maiden season as a professional.
Gauld's displays have seen him compared to Lionel Messi while they have also led to reported interest from some of the most prominent clubs in Europe, with Manchester United and Liverpool among those chasing the player.
Manchester United are reported to have made a formal approach to bring the £6 million-rated 17-year-old to Old Trafford, while Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has sent scouts to watch Gauld on a number of occasions this term.
Former Aberdeen star Miller has seen Gauld in action more than many this season during his work as a radio pundit, and has been incredibly impressed by the young Scottish midfielder.
"Ryan Gauld in particular is almost unstoppable at the moment. He has done more than most to help United climb up to third," Miller said, as reported by the Evening Telegraph.
The emergence of Gauld alongside a number of other exciting youngsters at Tannadice bodes well for the future of the Scottish top-flight, adds Miller, who believes Dundee United and Aberdeen are capable of breaking Celtic's monopoly.
“We could be heading into an exciting new era for Scotland’s New Firm. I was fortunate to play for Aberdeen at a time when ourselves and Dundee United were seen as the major forces in the Scottish game," Miller explained.
“We broke the Old Firm’s domination with sides full of exciting home-bred talents backed up by some more experienced, but prudent, signings.
“I’m overjoyed that history appears to be repeating itself at Pittodrie and Tannadice.
“Scottish football has been crying out for the New Firm to come out of their slumber and it’s brilliant it finally seems to be happening.”
