Andre Villas-Boas may decide to send Erik Lamela on loan to Atletico Madrid in January in the hope the £30 million man can rediscover some form, according to the Daily Express.

Lamela was purchased from AS Roma in August but has had a dismal start to his first season in England and has so far been unable to fill the void left by Gareth Bale's £85 million departure to Real Madrid.

The Argentinian has only scored one goal and provided two assists in 13 appearances in all competitions.

The 21-year-old has regularly featured in Tottenham Hotspur's Europa league side who have progressed comfortably into the next round of the competition.

But he's struggled in the Premier League having made only two starts and four substitute appearances.

Reports in Spain state that Villas-Boas is trying to set up a short-term deal which would see Lamela return to White Hart Lane in the summer.

It is hoped by Spurs that Lamela can regain his confidence and develop in La Liga with the Spanish side.
