Spartak Moscow winger Aiden McGeady is the subject of strong interest from Newcastle United this January, the Daily Mail reports.
The 27-year-old is also said to be interesting Everton, hoping to take him on a Bosman in the summer.
Joe Kinnear and Alan Pardew have plans of their own though, and plan to snap him up in the January transfer window for a cut price fee.
The Republic of Ireland international left Celtic three years ago to go to Russia, and had this to say about a possible move to the English Premier League:
He said in November: "When I am with the Ireland squad sometimes I look at the guys who are playing in England and feel a bit jealous.
"I feel I could be in the back of people's minds now, that I could be forgotten about. People ask me: 'Where are you playing now?' 'Oh are you still there?'
"I have made no secret of the fact that one day I would like to play in England. I would be disappointed if I never get the chance to do."
The flair winger hasn't had it all easy in Russia, receiving a six-match suspension which was later wiped out after an appeal.
McGeady sparked further talk over his possible exit from Russia when he said: "The club have offered me a new one but I'm not of a mind to sign it.
"It is in my mind to get back somewhere closer to home. I have told the club that and they are fine with it."
