The WWE are currently sweating over the fact that two of the companies biggest stars could be set to call it a day sooner rather than later.
Both CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio are seriously considering to call it a day within two to three years. Punk, aged 35, and Del Rio, aged 36 have had long careers whether it was on the independent scene or back in Mexico, both men have ensured they remain household names for every WWE or wrestling fan.
CM Punk has cited injuries as his reason to consider retirement so soon, we are aware that he continues to sustain injuries and yet continues to compete week in-week out because the WWE needs him.
His match against Dean Ambrose on Friday Night Smackdown, it was clear CM Punk was not feeling well and as expected, carrying injuries. He already tweeted on his Twitter account that his ribs are “busted”.
He has injured his ribs before, against The Undertaker at WrestleMania and also sustained a back injury just over a month ago, as the injuries tally up, CM Punk has more of a reason to call it quits, his health will be far more important.
He has made sure people inside the WWE are aware of the fact that he does not want to hang around longer than he should.
Along with CM Punk, Alberto Del Rio is also seriously considering to retire within the next couple of years. He has had a long and illustrious career in Mexico and is seen as one of Mexico’s finest imports.
He too is carrying injuries, perhaps not as many as Punk but it gives him more of a reason to consider retiring after it was revealed that Del Rio had suffered a concussion during his match with Sin Cara.
There is no doubt that the WWE would want to delay the potential retirements of both men, as they are both huge in terms of merchandise and reactions, whether it be positive or negative, and they get fans tuning in and even attending events.
