Chelsea are poised to make a £20m offer to Southampton for teenage left-back Luke Shaw, according to the Telegraph.
Southampton are reluctant to sell the 18-year-old, who signed a five-year contract with the Saints in July.
However, the St Mary's outfit do not think that will stop Chelsea from attempting to open talks with Shaw, who is a boyhood Blues fan, in January.
Jose Mourinho appears keen to sign a long-term replacement for Ashley Cole. The England international has played a peripheral role at Stamford Bridge in recent weeks, with Mourinho opting to play Spanish full-back Cesar Azpilicueta instead.
However, Chelsea are not the only club interested in Shaw, and a former offer could trigger a bidding war between the Premier League's heavyweights.
Tottenham are reportedly keen, while Manchester United have also been linked with the future England international.
It's believed that if Chelsea - or any of their interested rivals - fail to convince Southampton's executive chairman Nicola Cortese to sell in January, then they will return for the highly-rated defender at the end of the season.
