Arsenal make the trip to the Etihad for an early kick-off against the in-form Manchester City, just over 48 hours after their disappointing defeat against Napoli, which saw them finish runners up in the Group F of the Champions League.
The Gunners will face arguably the toughest test of their season so far when they meet a City side who came back convincingly to win 3-2 at Bayern Munich midweek.
The blue side of Manchester will also have centre back Vincent Kompany, and prolific striker Sergio Aguero available.
Whilst struggling on the road, Pellegrini's side have been unstoppable at home, marking that with a 6-0 victory against top four hopefuls Tottenham.
Carl Jenkinson will be set for his third straight match at right back, with number one choice Bacary Sagna still on the sidelines with a hamstring problem. However, the Gunners will have pacy winger Lukas Podolski back from the sidelines.
Arsenal have taken a dip in form this week, meanwhile confidence in the City dressing room is sky high after an unlikely win at the Allianz Arena.
If either side come out with a victory, this will be a real statement of intent, and they will probably be tipped for the title.
Arsenal have a tough fixture list running up into the new year, and manager Arsene Wenger has been concerned about the fatigue of his key players.
As well as this Matheiu Flamini, on his second spell with Arsenal, has called on his teammates to be focused and not be distracted by their five point lead at the top of the table.
