Man United, Chelsea & Arsenal dealt blow in race for €40m star

Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal face a massive struggle to land Schalke starlet Julian Draxler, as Barcelona and Real have also entered the race for him.

According to Spanish source Mundo Deportivo both Barca and their El Classico rivals are stepping up the chase for the young German star, which is bad news for the Premier League clubs wanting to sign him.

Speculation surrounding Draxler's future has hit pitch-fever in recent months and virtually every major European side has been linked with him at some point.

Arsenal were at one point considered favourites due to their recent influx of German players combined with Arsene Wenger's credentials are getting the best out of young stars.

However it now looks as though they, along with rivals Chelsea and United, will face an uphill battle to capture Draxler, who has a release clause of €40million, as Madrid and Barca will become favourites due to their already pristine reputation.

The 20-year-old himself has of yet gave no solid indication about whom it is he sees himself playing for after Schalke, but reports that it is a dream for him to play for Real Madrid don't bode well for others in the transfer race.
