Liverpool could be set to considerably boost their attack, with reports claiming that the club are set to make a move for Manchester United target and FC Basel winger Mohamed Salah.
According to the Daily Mail, the Reds are poised to offer £12 million in an attempt to acquire the player labelled by many as 'the Egyptian Messi' after manager Brendan Rodgers travelled to scout the player on Wednesday during Basel's Champions League defeat to Schalke at the Veltins-Arena.
Salah, an Egypt international with 17 goals in 26 games for his country, has been attracting rave reviews after starring on the European stage for the Swiss champions which most notably include decisive strikes in two separate surprise wins over Premier League outfit Chelsea in this year's group stage.
Such performances have seen the rapid 21-year-old become the subject of increasingly fervent transfer speculation, with Manchester United having been linked with his signature recently along with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Turkish outfit Galatasaray.
Providing they can strike a deal successfully, Liverpool attaining Salah would be a tremendous coup that would surely only serve to bolster what some prior to the start of the season may have deemed as an unlikely title push.
Brendan Rodgers' men have not often been found wanting in attack due to the heroics of prolific strike duo Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez.
However, with the former struggling with injury alongside talismanic captain Steven Gerrard and the likes of Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas failing to impose themselves at Anfield, Rodgers could certainly use a player capable of producing such excitement.
Manchester United, meanwhile, also appear to be desperately in need of a player of Salah's caliber.
While the former El-Mokawloon SC star might have not yet been tested in one of Europe's top leagues, the defending Premier League champions have been nothing short of dreadful of late and beleaguered boss David Moyes is evidently under considerable pressure to ensure that he brings players capable of adding flair to the ranks at Old Trafford.
