Manchester United chase AC Milan defender

Published 1 Comments

Manchester United have set their January sights on AC Milan defender Cristian Zapata, reports the Sunday Mirror.

The Colombia international has been watched by scouts of the Premier League champions on several occasions already this season, and could now be poised for a move to England when the transfer window reopens.

Red Devils boss David Moyes has prioritised bringing a new centre-back to Old Trafford at the turn of the year, amid increasing concerns over the long-term futures of club veterans Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

The 27-year-old is also capable of playing at full-back, and Moyes is understood to admire Zapata's versatility, but still sees him primarily as central defensive cover for Manchester United.

Phil Neville took in a watching brief of the Serie 'A' stopper during Colombia's recent international friendly clash against Holland, and after impressing in that match, the South American has established himself near the top of Manchester United's wish-list.
