Dundee United’s Ryan Gauld has attracted interest from some of the world’s biggest clubs after some terrific performances for his side in the Scottish Premiership this year.
Gauld has also been linked with a bunch of Premier League teams, including current champions Manchester United.
United are known for bringing in young players and turning them into world class players - Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney being two of the best examples – but in their current situation, Moyes should deter from looking into signing the Scottish sensation.
At just £6million it would hardly be an expensive signing for United, but this money could, and should be used elsewhere.
Despite needing to strengthen across the whole of the midfield, instead of looking for players who have great potential, Moyes needs to bring in players who are already good enough.
Though Gauld would get the occasional chance in United’s starting line-up, it is unlikely that he would cement a place in the team for a few years yet.
United’s title hopes look well and truly over for this year, but failure to finish in the top four would be a huge disaster, and avoiding signing young players could be the key to reviving their season this year.
