Sometimes managers take time to get to know their team and pick up results, but Steve McClaren has taken no time in turning Derby County into a major force in the Championship. With his first 10 games in charge Derby have romped up the table to 4th with eight wins, one draw and one loss under the former England manager.
The main factor has been the attacking way in which Derby now play. It shows with Derby having scored the most goals in the championship and the second highest goal difference. Derby have scored an impressive 42 goals this season and are 10 goals in front of Leeds United and Leicester City, who are the 2nd highest scorers in the league.
Another factor has been the amazing transformation of the defence; under Steve McClaren the derby defence has certainly tightened up. With three clean sheets and only conceding 9 goals the derby defence has certainly improved and derby are making it harder for opponents to score.
Steve McClaren has been very shrewd in the loan market by bringing in Andre Wisdom from Liverpool and Simon Dawkins from Tottenham. Dawkins has injected a real energy into the Derby attack. With two goals Dawkins is always looking to beat players and creates a lot of chances for him and other players.
Andre Wisdom has helped shore up that right back spot since the departure of John Brayford to Cardiff City. He has helped to make Derby a solid defensive side. He has also helped with the attacking side. His power, pace and energy has provided derby with more width and has set up one goal and created lots of chances for derby.
Although it is still early days, Derby fans can be pleased with the start the team have made under the new manager and if McClaren can strengthen the side and keep key players Derby can be considered true contenders for promotion.
