The New York Knicks are interested in signing Los Angeles Lakers power forward Pau Gasol, according to ESPN.

Western conference franchise the Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly weighing up a move for Knicks center Tyson Chandler, which could result in the two sides trading the aforementioned players.

New York Knicks head coach Mike Woodson is said to be keen on keeping 31-year-old Chandler at Madison Square Garden - but may be willing to let the former Dallas Mavericks star leave if it means they can sign Gasol.

The Knicks would be more receptive to a deal that would see shooting guard J.R. Smith move to the Staples Center.

The Lakers however would have to take on Smith's $18million three-year contract, which the former Denver Nuggets star signed in the summer.

Mike D'Antoni's side are also keen on bringing Knicks star Iman Shumpert to the Lakers - but will face competition from both the Denver Nuggets and the Toronto Raptors.
