Having suffered back-to-back home league defeats, United fans will have been forgiven for being slightly on edge ahead of a trip to Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.
With Moyes under pressure to get United back to winning ways in the Premier League, the news of the loss of Robin van Persie out for a month could not have come at a worse time.
But despite his absence upfront for Moyes, United managed to come away with a respectable 3-0 win, with Danny Welbeck coming in and grabbing two goals inside the opening half hour.
With Adnan Januzaj hitting the post with a charging header after good work from Valencia down the right, Welbeck was the quickest to react to put away the loose ball.
He grabbed his second minutes later, this time beating Januzaj to a low cross coming from Valencia down the right side again.
Tom Cleverley put the result beyond doubt in the second half, combining well with Wayne Rooney before slotting neatly past Brad Guzan at his near post. He made no attempt in showing his delight at scoring, and an impressive overall showing will have gone some way to answering some of his critics.
Rooney again showed his talents all over the field, dropping back and picking the ball up in his own half on occasions and getting United flowing again.
Another huge positive for Moyes and United was the return of Darren Fletcher. The Scot featured for the first time in nearly a year and the reaction he was greeted with was superb.
His first 10 passes of the ball were cheered massively by the away fans and they will be glad to see such an experienced player back at this crucial time.
A good result and performance from United sees them climb to 8th in the table, but for United fans this is not something to celebrate. The main question that comes now is can United keep this form going and begin to put together a decent Premier League run?
United fans expected nothing less than three points against Villa in order to try and keep in touch with the leaders, anything less would have surely put an end to their title challenge.
But the result and play in the game at Villa Park will fill United fans with some confidence yet again. They put some great passing moves together and Valencia showed yet again what he is capable of.
United need to continue playing in the same manner as they did at the weekend if they are to continue to climb the table as they need to. And the time is now for Moyes to make some decisions on who he favours in his starting XI for the team to gain some continuity in the Premier League.
