After Tottenham’s recent 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool at home, scrutiny has switched from Spurs’ lack of goals to their lack of a defence.

A pressing concern for Tottenham this season has been their lack of goals; they have only netted 15 times so far this season.

Luis Suarez, otherwise known as the best striker to grace the Premier League, has scored 17 alone; more than Spurs and 10 other teams in the Prem have managed.

Spurs’ topscorer, Roberto Soldado, only has four. Apart from his Europa league hat-trick against, lets be honest, a prep school team, Soldado, has preformed like a loaf of stale bread this season in comparison to Suarez.

Spurs have now conceded more than five goals on two occasions in the space of less than a month; losing 6-0 to City and 5-0 to Liverpool. Admittedly they have been without key defensive player; Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul and Vlad Chiriches due to injury. However, AVB made the bold and disastrous move of playing Etienne Capoue, a midfielder, at centre half.

Current Spurs centre-back regular and captain, Michael Dawson, is an experienced and professional defender. But his command over the back line has faltered of late and looks vulnerable. The Tottenham back four now resembles the roof of my last house, leaky.

I now bring you back to the days where William Gallas led Spurs’ defence. The former Chelsea and Arsenal centre-back was a strong, commanding and dominant presence at the back and consequently helped Tottenham to three consecutive top five finishes.

The Spurs defence currently looks like they have just been promoted and looks as though they could benefit from an experienced defender such as Gallas. I would advise you now to get rid of any of your Spurs defenders from your fantasy football team.

With the most competitive Premier League season I have witnessed it is hard to see Spurs pushing for a top half finish let alone a top five. Teams such as Everton, Liverpool, Newcastle and even Southampton, yes, Southampton have been more impressive on the pitch. Even Hull

City have a better home record than Spurs this season.
