Darren Fletcher made his first appearance since last December yesterday in Manchester United's 3-0 victory away at Aston Villa.
It was a welcome return to action for the Scottish international who has been out for with an illness. Before he got his illness, he was a regular part of the United midfield and he proved how much of a good player he was when he popped up with goals against the so called big four on a number of occasions.
His last goal was the only goal United scored in the 6-1 thrashing by the 2011/12 champions, Manchester City. This return by the former Scottish captain could just be the boost that United need to put them back in the title race. Fletcher is one of those players that can go forward and go back, when the team needs help defending, he will go back, when the team are on the attack, he is always there. He gets in those positions that help his team.
He manages to find space and allow team mates to pass to him. He is, you could say, like Michael Carrick, in the sense that he gets into the space. Because he has been out for such a long time, he has fallen behind in the pecking order, if David Moyes his placing him on the bench all ready, shows how much Moyes values him. He could be just the player for Moyes.
It has been said that David Moyes needs to sign a few more midfielders who can go back and defender and go forward to attack, but now he might not have to with the return of the 29-year-old, because he can do exactly all of those things.
He may have just got back to fitness and is not expected to be back to his best, but the 25 minute that he played on Sunday and actually played well, which proved that he might just be back to his best. If he is indeed back to his best, David Moyes needs to play him at bit more regularly because at the minute, the Old Trafford outfit are in need of a player like Darren Fletcher, a midfielder who can do anything.
It is extremely good to see Darren Fletcher back out on a football pitch, and here's hoping he can help turn United's season around.
