Premier League: Top 8 greatest comebacks (5)

Gareth Bale

Bale's rise from mediocre Premier League full-back to the world's most-expensive footballer is both staggering and heartwarming.

The down-to-earth Welshman did not impress after joining Tottenham from Southampton back in 2007, with some even going so far as to label him a jinx after going 24 games without featuring on a winning Spurs side in the Premier League.

All that was to change, of course, with Bale eventually finding his feet in supreme style at White Hart Lane and scoring a plethora of stunning goals for the club.

After moving to Real Madrid for £85 million this summer, the unassuming Bale suffered an injury-ravaged early spell at the Bernabeu but is now justifying his price tag with some crucial goals under Carlo Ancelotti.
