Joe Calzaghe has instructed Carl Froch to stage a rematch with George Groves following the controversial climax to their first fight, to protect his legacy.
Both were present at the 2013 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards.
The former super-middleweight World Champion is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail:
"'I thought Carl was fortunate and I think he should give him a rematch.
Carl's a strong fighter and we know what he brings to the table but I thought he got schooled in that fight. He was losing it badly and I think as champion it is up to him to give Groves another chance."
The message from the Welshman comes after Nottingham Boxer Froch seemingly threw the spanner in the works of the rematch, after expressing intent to have a last fight in the lights of Las Vegas.
Recently however, 'The Cobra' is a lot more optimistic about his future, hinting at more fights:
"I will sit down with my promoter Eddie Hearn and discuss my options. I think I have a maximum of three more fights left in me and I am interested in trying to make a rematch with Ward!"
A fight against Andre Ward is the one Froch has been interested in for a long time, and remains eager to get revenge on the man who beat him on American soil.
The dig from Calzaghe comes as no surprise to the Froch camp, who were once keen to tempt the Welshman out of retirement, but he wasn't interested:
"I was never close to making a comeback," he said.
