Chelsea are reportedly winning the race to sign Inter Milan midfielder Fredy Guarin, reports the Guardian.
Manchester United boss David Moyes was said to be keen on bringing the Colombian international to Old Trafford in hope that the 27-year-old could ease his side's midfield problems.
However Chelsea have jumped ahead of their Premier League rivals and are thought to be pole position to land the Serie A star in January.
Reports suggest Inter Milan have already rejected an initial £12million offer from Chelsea for Guarin.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is expected to make a second bid for Guarin in the next couple of weeks as he is desperate to beat Manchester United to land the central midfielder.
The Portuguese tactician wants to add a deep-lying midfielder to his ranks as the west London side have been heavily reliant on Ramires and Frank Lampard.
It is thought that a bid in the region of £15million will be enough to convince Inter Milan into selling Guarin.
