Arsenal and Bayern Munich are all interested in the services of Nicolas Nkoulou, according to Le10Sport.

The Cameroon international has played a starring role for Marseille since joining from Monaco in 2011 for around £3m.

He appeared in both games against Arsenal in this season's Champions League and, despite losing both games, did enough to impress Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners boss is looking to add defensive cover in the January transfer window having seen Laurent Koscielny suffer a serious knee laceration that will keep him out for "a while", according to Wenger.

That leaves Arsenal with just two recognised centre-backs - not enough to sustain a title challenge.

Wenger will therefore look to bring Nkoulou to the Emirates in January but faces two massive obstacles.

The first is Marseille's asking price, believed to be around €20m. The second is that European champions Bayern Munich are also interested in the 23-year-old.

Pep Guardiola is keen to add reinforcements as they aim to reinforce their dominance over the rest of the Bundesliga.

However, if either of the teams sign Nkoulou they won't be able to use him in their upcoming Champions League clash as he is cup-tied.

AS Monaco, who have significantly more financial power than in 2011, are also believed to be keeping an eye on their former player.
