The New York Yankees have agreed a one-year deal to sign Brian Roberts worth $2m, reports CBSSports.com.

It caps the first time the 36-year-old has moved away from the Baltimore Orioles in his 13-year career.

His career stats look like this: .278/.349/.412 but hasn't hit top form since 2009.

Last season he hit .249/.312/.392 with 12 doubles, a triple, eight home runs, 39 RBIs and 33 runs. He also played his most games since 2009 - 77.

Injuries to his neck, back, knee, abdomen, hip and hamstring as well as struggling with concussions means he has played just 192 of a possible 648 games over the last four years.

The second baseman is the first potential replacement for Robinson Cano to come in since he departed for the Seattle Mariners in free agency.

Roberts, along with Kelly Johnson are expected to be manager Joe Girardi's first choice options at second base.

The Yankees are also reportedly interested in deals for Mark Reynolds and Michael Young as they look to strengthen their infield depth.
