Vitali Klitschko is no longer the WBC Heavyweight champion of the world.

Klitschko has not defended the title in over a year with many fighters unhappy that the governing body have not been forcing him to fight.

Due to his political duties in Ukraine, the older of the Klitschko brothers has struggled to balance both commitments.

The former champion has been given the title "champion emeritus" which means should he return to the ring, he will be able to fight for the title straight away.

Vitali and his brother Wladimir have dominated the heavyweight division so this decision has the potential to put another name other than Klitschko at the top of the heavyweight division.

If Wladimir fights for the vacant belt it will be unlikely that we see Vitali fighting in the ring again after promising their mother they would never fight each other.

It will also mean that Wladimir will hold the four best belts in the heavyweight division as well as the ring magazine title as the best Heavyweight boxer.
