Tottenham star Jermain Defoe is set to leave White Hart Lane for the MLS, following a sensational plea from American rapper Drake.

The long-serving Spurs forward has been mulling over the idea of moving across the Atlantic for sometime, but is now said to have had his mind made up following a call from the Headlines singer- who is a devoted fan of Toronto FC.

Drake was recruited as the MLS side's 'global ambassador' back in September and has since set about trying to recruit some of the football's most notorious names.

The Mirror reports that Defoe was taken aback by the rapper's personal request and it has convinced him to commit his future to Toronto by way of penning a four-year, £90,000-a-week deal- which he is expected to do soon.

The 31-year-old has found himself struggling for game-time at Tottenham this year, with summer import Roberto Soldado continually getting the nod ahead of him.

That, combined with the fact that he is believed to be a massive Drake fan, mean that he is all but set to complete the switch even though he realises it will do his chances of making England's 2014 World Cup squad little good.
