Manchester United and Chelsea will be clear to bid for 17-year-old Brazilian Mosquito in January after he impressed at the Under-17 World Cup, according to reports cited the Daily Star.

The young Atletico Paranaense striker scored four goals in the competition before Brazil were knocked out by Mexico in the quarter-finals. His performances have also attracted interest from Real Madrid and Juventus.

European clubs are not allowed to bid for any player under the age of 18 but Mosquito’s 18th birthday falls in the winter transfer window on January 6.

Mosquito’s young career has been full of controversy after the striker moved from Vasco de Gama to Atletico Paranaense. Other clubs began to get suspicious about his age and the youngster has been unable to play in some domestic games.

The Brazilian’s representatives are asking for around £4 million which Manchester United and Chelsea are willing to meet, reports cited by the Daily Star claimed.

If Chelsea are successful in signing the 17-year-old they would presumably send him out on loan to Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem, who they have strong links with. The move could be used to give Mosquito experience in Europe before joining up with Chelsea.
