Balague: Liverpool have no agreement for Alonso

Liverpool have no agreement in place to re-sign Xabi Alonso from Real Madrid, according to Guillem Balague.

Sky Sports' Spanish football expert took to Twitter to deny suggestions that the Merseyside club are closing in on a deal to bring the Spain international back to the Premier League.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has been credited with an interest in bringing the midfielder back to Anfield, as he looks to further strengthen his squad in January

With Liverpool currently just two points behind leaders Arsenal, a productive transfer window could put them in serious contention to win the Premier League title next May.

Alonso will be out of contract at the end of the season, and has been heavily linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 32-year-old will be free to negotiate with foreign clubs at the turn of the year, but any hopes Liverpool fans might have had of their club stealing a march on rival suitors, have now been damaged following Balague's latest comment.

"It is false that Xabi Alonso has got any kind of agreement with Liverpool," he tweeted.
