Liverpool target Hakan Calhanoglu is not a ‘transfer candidate’ for Arsenal in January, according to the player’s agent.
Bektas Demirtas has moved to dismiss suggestions that the Gunners are set to land the Turkish teenager in the New Year, despite Arsene Wenger doing something similar last week.
The Hamburg star has also been linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks, with the Reds also reported to be an interested party.
"We never said Arsenal are interested in Hakan. They're definitely not among the candidates,” Demirtas told Goal.com.
Despite the comments from Wenger, speculation over a move to the Emirates Stadium had forced Hamburg sporting director Oliver Kreuzer to state publicly that the player was not for sale.
Arsenal have a track record of bringing top young players to north London, and Calhanoglu – dubbed ‘the new Mesut Ozil’ in the press – could have been the next jewel in the crown.
They aren’t the only Premier League club to be linked though, with The Daily Express claiming Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is also interested in the player.
The Reds have made a fine start to the season, with Philippe Coutinho impressing in an attacking midfield role at Anfield for the league's current second-place team.
A lack of depth in the position could be their undoing as they chase the Premier League title however, and Calhanoglu would give Liverpool another option behind in-form striker Luis Suarez.
