Having seemingly failed in his attempts to lure Leighton Baines away from his former employers Everton, David Moyes has switched his attentions to 22-year-old Alex Sandro of Porto, reports the London Metro.
Having worked with Baines, Moyes was keen to sign the England international as a replacement for the ageing Patrice Evra.
But, he was unable to lure him away during the summer window, and there have been many suggestions that he would go back in for him when the window re-opened in January.
Martinez is keen to hang on to Baines as his Everton side pushes for a Champions League spot for next season, so Moyes appears to have switched his attentions to young Sandro.
The Brazilian born Porto defender has been impressive in Portugal since his arrival, and has managed to earn six international caps for Brazil in the process.
And, it is said that Moyes was in the stands to monitor the defender as Porto slipped to a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid last week.
With Evra reaching the final years of his playing days, a replacement is a high priority for Manchester United. And with the chances of teaming up with Baines at Old Trafford becoming slimmer, Sandro could be a wise alternative.
The Premier League champions have been linked with a move for another Porto defender, Eliaquim Mangala, so could they be ready to do a double deal for the two highly rated young defenders?
