Arsenal and Liverpool are prepared to start a bidding war for Greek international Konstantinos Mitroglou, report the Daily Star.
The striker has been touted as a £7.5 million man and would be ideal for both clubs as a back-up option to either Luis Suarez or Olivier Giroud.
Mitroglou is set to face Manchester United in the next stage of the Champions League with current club Olympiakos, with the Greek forward having scored 22 goals for club and country this season- making him the top scorer in the Greek Super League.
Olympiakos coach Jose Miguel Michel, said: “If he keeps on doing well, it will be hard to keep him. We’ve known for some time that there has been interest from many clubs, but that’s only logical considering how well he has been doing lately.”
The two English clubs are set to look for an additional striker in January to provide cover for their forwards and the 25-year-old most definitely fits the bill.
Mitroglou plays with Arsenal loanee Joel Campell at Olympiakos, which the London club may use to force the move through.
According to the Daily Star, Newcastle are also monitoring the striker but would need to make room in their current squad for the Greek, with Papiss Cisse possibly leaving St James’ Park in order to provide a space.
