Bayern Munich strolled into the Club World Cup final after victory over Guangzhou Evergrande, whilst they hit the woodwork five times last night.

Goals from Franck Ribery and Mario Manduzkic in the first half saw the European champions progress with ease, and Mario Gotze sealed the victory early in the second period.

In truth, the score was kept respectable by dogged defending and the frame of the goal for the Asian champions, who are managed by World Cup-winner Marcello Lippi.

Manuel Neuer did not have a shot to save in the Bayern goal and his side will fight for the trophy in the final against either Atletico Mineiro or Raja Casablanca, who play their semi-final tonight.

The Bundesliga champions began brightly, pressing their opposition high up the field and not allowing them out of their own third. Thiago Alcantara and Toni Kroos both saw shots smash off the frame of the goal before Ribery gave his side the lead.

Guangzhou failed to clear their lines and Ribery’s snapped shot crept under goalkeeper Zeng Chen.

Lippi’s side would have taken a one-nil deficit at half time but another poor defensive clearance led to Mandzukic making it two.

Huang Bowen was robbed of possession on the edge of his area and Alcantara clipped the ball up to the Croat to head home a minute before the break.

Gotze completed the scoring two minutes after the restart with a long-range effort which took a cruel deflection off a defender to evade Chen.

Bayern continued to assert their dominance and hit the post three more times, whilst Chen made good saves to stop Pep Guardiola’s men making a mockery.
