Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has sent scouts to Madrid to watch irrepressible Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, according to Goal.com.
The 25-year-old, who recently declared his allegiance to Spain despite being born in Brazil, has been in sublime form this season, with 17 goals in 16 league games and 22 goals in all competitions.
His impressive displays have helped to put Atletico level on points with current La Liga leaders Barcelona.
He has risen to prominence since the departure of Radamel Falcao to Monaco in the summer, which meant he became the focal point of Atletico's attack, a role in which he has thrived.
Costa was linked with a move to Liverpool over the summer; however, he chose to instead sign a new deal with the Madrid side to keep him at the club until 2018.
It is believed, though, that the deal contained a £30million buy-out clause, which Arsenal will look to trigger.
Arsenal have been heavily reliant on Olivier Giroud this season, with Nicklas Bendtner his only back-up. Lukas Podolski is also able to operate as a striker, but it is believed Wenger is keen to add Costa as a natural centre-forward.
However, Costa may be reluctant to leave the Vicente Calderon - he is in the form of his life, has been called up to the Spain squad, and his side are challenging for the league title.
Atletico would also be loath to lose one of their stars midway through what looks like a potentially promising season for them.
