Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly ready to put his money where his mouth is and lodge a formal bid for Atletico Madrid star Diego Costa, as well as offering him a lucrative contract, having made him a January priority signing.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with the free-scoring forward in recent weeks as Wenger looks to relieve some of the pressure on first-choice frontman Olivier Giroud.
And now, according to reports from Spanish source Mundo Deportivo, the long-serving Arsenal coach has confirmed his interest in the 25-year-old.
"Diego Costa is an animal, [he] can make it anywhere," Wenger said a few months ago, when asked of his opinion on Costa. He's also had scouts pouring over the star in recent weeks, offering him regular updates on his status.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Arsenal boss is confident that the Atletico striker would perform well ahead of the likes of Jack Wilshere, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey in midfield, and so is ready to stump up the mooted £32million needed to convince the Spanish outfit to sell.
Wenger is rumoured to be prepared to offer Costa a contract worth €6million-a-year, more than double what he is on with his current club, in order to lure him away.
