Tampa Bay Rays expect to lose Tim Beckham for six to eight months following surgery on his damaged anterior cruciate ligament, reports ESPN.
The second base/shortstop only made his debut in the major leagues in September but suffered the unfortunate injury during a routine offseason workout last week.
Beckham had surgery on the injured ligament on Tuesday with Dr. James Andrews performing the surgery in Pensacola.
Minor League pitcher Ryne Stanek also had surgery on his troubled hip, repairing his right labrum.
Stanek, who was a first round pick in the 2013 draft, is expected to return to the mound in mid-season.
23-year-old Beckham the No.1 pick in the amateur draft back in 2008.
He impressed for Triple-A Durham hitting .276 with four home runs and 51 RBIs before playing five games for the Rays towards the end of last season.
