Barcelona full-back Martin Montoya will snub Liverpool's offer in January and sign a new contract, according to TalkSport.

The Merseyside club were in the hunt for the 22-year-old alongside Inter Milan, Napoli and Valencia as Montoya’s current deal is set to expire in June.

The Catalan club want to keep their young defender and have offered Montoya fresh terms, after gifting the player an extended run in the first-team appearances.

Montoya has played 12 games in all competitions for Barcelona this season after graduating from Barcelona B in 2012. The highly-rated full-back is currently covering at right-back for the injury Dani Alves.

TalkSport have reported the player is close to finalising a new deal after Montoya’s agent met with sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.

Montoya became a Liverpool target after Brendan Rodgers implemented the 3-5-2 formation, as the defender can play as a wing back as well.
