LA Lakers rule out selling first-choice power forward

The Los Angeles Lakers are keen on keeping power forward Pau Gasol away from the clutches of the New York Knicks, according to ESPN.

The Knicks are said to be keen on bringing Gasol to Madison Square Garden.

Reports suggested the Knicks were willing to trade center Tyson Chandler in hope that they could land the Spaniard.

However the Lakers have now decided that they want to Gasol and will not let him leave the Staples Center before the trade deadline in February.

The Lakers were thinking about showing Gasol the exit door when he appeared to criticise head coach Mike D'Antoni.

Gasol has since moved to deny he had fallen out with D'Antoni by praising the Lakers head coach.

The former Memphis Grizzlies star impressed for the Lakers on Tuesday night, scoring 21 points in his side's 96-92 win against his former side.

Gasol is likely to start against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night.
