Liverpool have today contacted the agent of Manchester United target Fernando, and told him that they intend to bring his client to Anfield.

According to Sports Witness, citing Portuguese newspaper A Bola, the Reds' informed António Araújo that they will do what they can to sign the Brazilian star in the near future, as Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen his side.

The 26-year-old has a mooted buyout clause embedded in his contract which stands at €30million, but he is available for nothing in the summer as his deal ends and he has yet to agree to an extension.

Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for Fernando, as David Moyes wants to make good on his promise to improve his midfield in the winter transfer window.

Only this week did Araújo claim that his client was looking to move to the Serie A, but if reports emerging from Portugal today are to be believed, Liverpool intend to do all they can to stop that from happening.
