Barcelona icon Lionel Messi has hit out at the club's vice-president Javier Faus in a row over a supposed request for a new contract.
It was speculated previously that the 26-year-old prolific attacker had requested a pay-rise which would make him the best-paid player in La Liga again - a position which is currently occupied by the Real Madrid super striker Cristiano Ronaldo.
This prompted Faus to stress that Barca have no intention to hand Messi a new deal hardly a year after his previous contract extension.
But Messi, who was evidently furious at Faus' words, insisted that he never asked for a new deal and he also went on to slam Faus for his lack of football knowledge.
"Faus is a person who does not know anything about football," Messi told RAC1 in an interview that was quoted by Goal.com.
"He tries to run Barcelona like a business, but this is a football club. Barcelona are the best club in the world and should also have the best directors in the world.
"I have never asked for a new contract and neither has any of my representatives."
Messi is currently out of action for the La Liga champions, having sustained a hamstring injury during a domestic clash against Real Betis in November.
The diminutive maestro is reportedly making strides in his recovery from that injury, however, with club doctor Richard Pruna insisting that Messi was making 'good progress'.
