It has emerged this afternoon that former Fulham star Clint Dempsey is in London for a medical ahead of a proposed loan move from The Seattle Sounders man is set for a second stint at Craven Cottage under new boss Rene Meulensteen.

With Fulham struggling this Premier League season, the London club have been one of five sides to axe their manager already this campaign, with Martin Jol biting the bullet for some poor results.

The rut sees Fulham currently one place off bottom of the Premier League, yet only a point away from safety.

And new boss Meulensteen has wasted little time in attempting to reverse the club's fortunes, with Dempsey set to return to the club where he became a fan favourite and a potent threat in the Premier League.

Dempsey spent over five years with the Cottagers, and was a key part for Fulham during his time with the club.  And with 50 goals in 184 league appearances, Fulham fans will be hoping of a repeat in the form he had at the club.

Dempsey left Fulham for London rivals Spurs last year in a £6m deal, but left after just one season, opted to return home to the United States with the Seattle Sounders.

But with the MLS season over until early March, Dempsey is set to rejoin Fulham.  With him in London for his medical, there is little doubt that the temporary switch will happen and if agreed, will happen when the window is open for business once again on January 1.

The news will surely be greeted with smiles from the Fulham fans, and the 30-year-old American international could be just the man to take the west London outfit back up the table and escape a possible relegation battle.
