With the January transfer window just around the corner, it's no surprise to see some transfer gossip dominating the headlines in the national newspapers.

However, there is some pretty juicy general news to go alongside all the speculation, and that's one of the lead stories in the opening paper we review - The Sunday Mirror

- Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits German playmaker Mesut Ozil needs a rest - but will have to wait to get it.

The attacking midfielder has been pivotal for the Gunners this season, and will need to be at top form when Chelsea visit the Emirates Stadium on Monday night.

- Louis van Gaal has emerged as Tottenham Hotspur's top target to replace Andre Villas-Boas as the next permanent manager at White Hart Lane.

Tim Sherwood has taken over on a temporary basis for Spurs, but the club hope to persuade the Netherlands that Van Gaal can job share both the national team and in north London.

- Southampton playmaker Adam Lallana believes teammate Morgan Schneiderlin - overlooked by France - should be considered for England.
