Chelsea set transfer sights on £30m Liverpool target

Chelsea have set their January transfer sights on Liverpool striker target Jackson Martinez, according to reports.

The Daily Star claims the Porto forward is one of six players on the Blues' transfer wishlist, with two other strikers (Wayne Rooney and Radamel Falcao), one defender (Andrea Rannochia) and two midfielders (Nemanja Matic and Fredy Guarin) in the sights of manager Jose Mourinho.

Inconsistency has been an issue for Chelsea so far this season, and whilst the club from west London remain in striking distance at the top of the Premier League table, they are yet to hit top form.

The arrival of some big names in January could take the Blues to the next level, and Martinez would strengthen the side in attack as Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o continue to struggle to make the position their own at Stamford Bridge.

£30million is mooted as the fee to bring the player to Chelsea, but owner Roman Abramovich may face a battle with other interested parties to land the player.

Indeed, title rivals Liverpool have recently been linked with a move, with reports back in November that the player issued a 'come and get me plea' to both the Blues and Reds.

Attack has certainly been the strength of Brendan Rodgers' side this season, with Luis Suarez in sensational form and Daniel Sturridge also scoring with ease when fit at Anfield.

The Colombian international would give the Merseyside giants another option if they could secure his signing, but Liverpool will face a domestic battle for the 27-year-old if the paper is to be believed.
