Inter Milan midfielder Fredy Guarin has received contact from Chelsea regarding a proposed transfer, with manager Jose Mourinho having spoken to the agent of the Colombia international.
There has been growing speculation in recent weeks that the Blues were preparing to launch a bid of £12.6 million for the player during the January transfer window, and Guarin has now confirmed an initial move has already been made.
The 27-year-old does, however, claims he harbours no strong ambition to leave the San Siro for Chelsea, and hopes his current employers take into consideration his desire to remain in Milan.
"I can not deny there is something, I haven’t spoken with Mourinho but my agent did,” Guarin told reporters.
“However, I hope Inter consider my will to stay."
Guarin has scored seven times in 48 appearances for Inter since his transfer to the club from Porto in the summer of last year having initially spent a spell on loan with the Serie A giants.
Chelsea, meanwhile, meet Arsenal on Monday evening presented with an opportunity to propel themselves above the Gunners and level with Premier League leaders Liverpool.
Three points for Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium will take the Blues to 36 points from their 17 games - the same as Liverpool - but the Reds retain a far superior goal difference.
