England's defence is going to be key at the World Cup given they will be competing in the group of death including Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica.

England will be playing against the likes of Edinson Cavani, Luis Suárez and Andrea Pirlo so their defence will have to be strong, have the right attitude and be very, very disciplined.

Back at Euro 2012, England's defence stayed solid to keep Italy at bay for 120 mins before crashing out of penalties.

This time, it is the World Cup, which is even bigger and England will not have John Terry either after he retired from England duty last year.

Uruguay have that insane attack of Suárez, Cavani and Diego Forlan, which will be some attack for the likes of Kyle Walker and Ashley Cole to contain.

However, Arsenal and Hull City have managed to keep out Suárez this season not letting him get a sniff in the game so the centre-backs should really analyse this for help and I'm sure that Roy Hodgson will use this too.

Italy's main man will be Mario Balotelli who will be getting the top quality service from either Pirlo, Claudio Marchisio or Daniele De Rossi.

England will really have to deal with Pirlo if they want to have a chance of winning this game as Pirlo's playmaking ability was the main reason for why Italy got all the way to the final of Euro 2012 after they even beat the young, but magnificent Germany.

England's defence is going to matter so much so that is why it is so important that Hodgson picks the best defensive partnership.
