Premier League: Transfer window essentials (2)

1. Liverpool

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and his side have shrugged off a turbulent summer to set the Premier League pace at Christmas, inspired by the simply stunning form of Luis Suarez and a trusty supporting cast.

The challenge now for Rodgers and the Reds is to build on that impressive progress with the right additions next month, with the Merseyside chief readily admitting that he wants new recruits in key areas.

First and foremost Liverpool could definitely do with taking some of the burden off Suarez, particularly as Daniel Sturridge continues to work his way back from injury.

Barcelona forward Pedro is definitely a far-fetched future target but a wide forward in his mould should be a priority, drifting into the kind of areas which would provide service for Suarez and provide the Uruguay hitman with more space by stretching opposition defences.

The Reds are blessed with a strong cast of central defenders but could definitely do with beefing up at full-back if they are serious about a title challenge, despite some admirable work from covering youngster John Flanagan.

Chelsea starlet Ryan Bertrand has been consistently linked with a switch to Anfield and definitely needs games to prove his worth, with the left-back offering what looks like a perfect fit for both clubs if the price is right.
